Asus has come a long way in terms of its product quality and price tag associated with it. ASUS A53E-AS31 is a very nice general purpose laptop under 500 dollars and works well for web browsing, basic photo editing in photoshop, playing music and working on Office applications. The 15.6 inch LED-backlit HD display is beautiful and the dark red color on this laptop keeps it from being a fingerprint magnet. This laptop is sturdy and the design is good too.
It comes equipped with the same second generation 2.3 GHz Intel Core i3-2350M dual-core processor which powers Dell Inspiron i14RN-1227BK but has added advantage of fairly bigger hard drive and low heat ice cool technology. 4 GB DDR3 RAM is preinstalled in this laptop and the maximum you can upgrade to is 8 GB. The Intel HD Graphics 3000 is integrated in Intel Core i3 processor which along with watching movies, browsing photos is also capable to play games like GTA 4 on lowest settings and other less heavy games on low to mid settings. The hard drive on this Asus laptop is 750GB which is around 250GB additional to what Dell Inspiron i14RN-1227BK comes with.

The ASUS A53E laptop comes with Altec Lansing speakers which itself are known for good sound quality. There is also SmartLogon facial recognition technology which helps you to log in to your laptop without a password. Ports included in this laptop are SD media card slot, LAN connectivity, 0.3 megapixel camera, 3 USB ports and HDMI out port.
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit operating system is also bundles in the purchase which comes preinstalled. The only cons I think this laptop has is that it doesn’t ship with recovery media dvd that is why you should run it’s built-in utility to create your own recovery media disks in case of emergency.
The average battery backup of 4 hours can be easily achieved via its 6 cell battery. This laptop is fairly priced at $469 but if you want more processing power you can also look for the upgraded version of this laptop which comes with Intel Core i5-2450M with a price tag of $589.
