The ASUS A53U-AS21 is one of the laptops which comes with a decent price tag of of just 330 dollars and offers a full sized 15.6-Inch screen with a powerful AMD E-450 processor. On the Exterior this laptop doesn’t look bad at all. It comes with textured finish. which ensures that the exterior of this laptop will remain good looking even after many years of use.
This laptop is powered by an AMD E-Series Dual-Core E-450 running at 1.65 GHz with an integrated Radeon HD 6320G graphics chip. The performance of this laptop is not through the roof but it isnt that bad either. It will for sure handle most everyday day to day tasks like browsing, chatting, watching movies(not HD movies though), listening to music and so forth. Even if the the specs of this laptop doesnt seem much, it sure is capable enough to play games like Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 and Crysis at lowest settings. However running CPU intensive softwares like Photoshop would be a problem.
The AMD E-450 itself isn’t a very powerful processor but combined with Radeon HD 6320G graphics it is able to get you through daily work. The preinstalled 4 GB DDR 3 RAM is more than enough for casual usage and you can always add another 4 GB RAM as it contains 2 RAM slots.
The 320 GB HDD is little low when compared to others laptops but still its enough storage space for most users. You can also add an external USB powered HDD in case you need extra storage.
The 6-cell Li-ion Battery, ASUS A53U-AS21 comes with offers up to 4 hours of battery life which I think is a reasonable battery life for any laptop.
Connectivity options of this laptop includes Ethernet port, HDMI and VGA out, 3 USB ports , and DVD-RW drive. However you wont get a memory card reader and bluetooth with this laptop which is a letdown. On the positive side it has high speed WiFi Wireless N connectivity which is really great.
I would say if you are looking for a netbook then ASUS A53U-AS21 is a very good alternative to a 10-Inch Netbook, which not only offers better performance but also a bigger screen and keyboard. As an addon it also offers an optical drive which non of the netbooks offer. However if you can increase your budget by just $50 then you can purchase Asus K55N. It is powered by a AMD A series processor which can provide far better performance than this laptop.
